A Return to Meeting in Homes

A Surprising End to a Promising Start

Church #7 did indeed relocate, as planned. They’re now a scant 1.3 miles from our home. The move didn’t happen as quickly as they hoped, but it didn’t take that much longer, either.

Their new location is an improvement over their old one. Before they met in an aging building, a former strip mall in ill repair and lacking appeal.

Though they are again in a storefront, this one is newer and more inviting. They moved several months ago but only recently had a “grand opening.”

I’d like to check things out and see what else has changed. Unfortunately, before I can, they close. I emailed the pastor to find out what happened, but he never responded.

An employee at a nearby business said they decided to meet in homes to save money on rent. Interestingly, this group started out meeting in homes.

Although their sign is down and their storefront is for rent, their website lives on, even though it hasn’t been updated in months. It still proclaims they have Sunday morning services at their now closed location.

I applaud that they are meeting in homes and saving on the cost of rent, but I’m sadden by these developments and the lack of communication.

Takeaway

How important is it to have a church building? Do you think it’s as important to God?
